The Mindscape

The Mindscape is the game-like world where people, now known as “players,” awake in. The memories of new players are wiped, and they are given a different appearance through their new avatars. Within this world are different levels, domains, and the dream space.

The Dream Space

The Dream Space is a special level that players enter every five-level milestone. This acts as a resting space for players to take a break between levels. The space appears as a deep purple void, filled with various random objects and STARs. Every 10 levels, there will be a STAR accessible to the player. By consuming the STAR, a fraction of the player’s memory of their past life is restored.

Escaping and Progression

In order to escape a level or domain, the player must complete it by surviving or finding an exit. Exit possibilities are limitless, ranging between all kinds of different appearances depending on each level. Once a player escapes a level, they will progress onto the next.

Levels

Levels are the worlds players must enter in order to progress through the Mindscape. These levels mimic video games from many different genres, ranging from platformers, simulators, beat-em ups, horror, visual novels, and so on. Levels are unpredictable and come with many surprises. Even the most peaceful ones may be deceitful.

Domains

Domains are levels that have been transformed into the homes of players who are unable to escape the Mindscape. Similar to levels, there are many different types of domains, some more dangerous than others and often unpredictable. Domains are closely tethered to whoever they are ruled by, and anyone who owns them are rarely found in any other other level outside their own domain.

STAR Weapons

STAR weapons can be used as a last resort if safely escaping a level is impossible for a player. Weapons are scattered all across different levels, often appearing normal to the naked eye. Amongst some of these weapons are special ones that carry the STAR property, and these can be used as a self-destructive device, effectively ending the life of player and allowing them to respawn in a different level.These weapons can be kept by the player and used at any time, but there’s a catch. When a player ends their life with a STAR weapon, they will skip any easy or safe levels and respawn into a more difficult one. Players will also feel phantom pain from wherever they inflicted any previous wounds using a STAR weapon.However, STAR weapons aren’t perfect. There’s always gamble, and not everyone is so lucky.

Mindcult

The Mindcult is a group of players who see the Mindscape as the afterlife. These cultists are often aggressive, aiming to attack other players who attempt to escape the Mindspace or stray away from the cult. Mindcultists deliberately increase the difficulty of levels or rig domains in order to sabotage other players.

Kross

Kross arrives in the Mindscape as a new “player” in the beginning of End:Less. Having lost his memory, he neither knows where he is or how he got there. Luckily for him, his sharp intellect and creative mind will assist him in achieving his goals: regaining his memories and escaping. His journey, however won’t be without their trials; as intelligent as he is, he is also prone to losing control of his emotions and can be a bit of a douche because of his high self-confidence and inability to comfort others.

Reina

Reina, a new “player” to the Mindscape, holds a strong personality. Guided by her self-confidence and witty nature, she won’t hesitate to call someone out on their bullshit! But to those who show her respect and kindness, she’ll repay them in kind. Reina struggles heavily with her physical appearance and envy directed at others who she thinks look better than her. Unfortunately, the clothes the “avatar” she woke up in wears are far more revealing than anything she would be comfortable in. To cope with her insecurities, she frequently compares herself to the people around her.

Bodhi

Bodhi, a veteran player, chooses to take a more pacifist role to the Mindscape and its levels. Usually completing levels through means of sneaking his way through areas till he finds one he wouldn't mind staying for a while. He doesn't have an inherent desire to leave the Mindscape due to his fear of conflict and would rather attempt to live a peaceful life here, despite how hard The Drum Major tends to make his life.

Sol

Sol is a Voidling, one of the only two present in End:Less, the other being his brother Keeper.Sol once ruled over the Mindscape. He created the various realms and obstacles within in order to feed on the XP of the lost souls trapped in the Mindscape. He was eventually defeated and thrown into the void by the Drum-Major, who absorbed much of his power / XP. In the Void, Sol used his remaining power to shape a castle from the broken remains of other realms. He fashioned clothing from tattered cloth and armor from scrap metal. His solar crown has become rusted and bent after years of living in the Void.One day, he came across Bodhi, seeking a safe and solitary space, away from the torment of the Drum-Major. Sol promised Bodhi protection and strength to face the Drum-Major. But only if Bodhi helped him restore himself, to regain his strength.

Keeper

Keeper is death itself. He is the wind whipping at your face, the dirt trampled beneath your footsteps, the water which cools your skin. He is the brown leaf that breaks away from its branch, the decaying bones of creatures long since passed, the dull fish that floats to the surface. Everyone who fails to escape and dies trying, shall find themselves greeted by Keeper. They will cease, and they will join him.

Mya

Mya is a human that has been trapped inside the Mindscape for some time by the beginning of End:Less. Her one goal is to escape, and to devote herself to this goal, she neglects the people around her. She has gained the ability to see the future, as somewhat of an oracle, and will make it her mission to use this power to her advantage in any way possible.

Seth

Seth is one of many mindfolk that has resorted to making himself feel at home within the Mindscape. Nobody knows how long he has been stuck here, not even he knows. In his free time, he travels and collects various items from levels, storing them in his backpack incase they come in handy for any situation. Seth may come off as quite dry and reserved, but he means no harm to anyone who meets him. He’s just trying his best to make the most out of his time being stuck here.
